About Me

Hey, welcome to my stomping ground!

I’m Matthew Cowell, I grew up in Sydney, Australia,  but lived in the coastal town of Port Macquarie for most of my adult years. In early 2018, I moved to Dunedin, New Zealand to be closer to the mountains to further my passion for hiking and photography. From 2019-2020, I resided in the famous outdoor capital of New Zealand – Queenstown. However, I’ll be living life out of the van to start out 2021 – plenty of new hiking adventures to share!

I’m a self-proclaimed hobbyist photographer, and lover of the natural world. I’ve always had a thing for travelling since my parents first took me around my own country of Australia when I was a young kid, but since then, I’ve embarked on many great adventures including many travels around Europe, Patagonia (in South America), New Zealand and thru-hiking the mighty Pacific Crest Trail on the west coast of the USA from Mexico to Canada.

Since 2014, I’ve also developed a strong taste in natural landscape photography. I am self-taught, and have learned a few tricks in the trade to produce photos I am quite proud of – being only a hobbiest photographer. This webpage was designed to document and share my travels from 2016 onwards. More specifically, since 2018 to also be an online hiking informative resource for the public.

I hope you gain some insight or entertainment from my travels.
